I’ve been waiting on turkey for almost a year now. It’s been in the freezer since Thanksgiving, and now it’s time to defrost. The problem with defrosting is that it takes a long time. I’ve read that it takes up to two weeks for the bone to get to room temperature.
Not only that, but defrosting is actually a fairly inefficient way to store a turkey for a few days. It is much more efficient to store the turkey in its own frozen state. So while the bone is in the box, the skin is in the freezer. When the turkey is ready to thaw, you just take the turkey out of the freezer, defrost it, and then you cook it for dinner.
What makes defrosting so inefficient is that it does this by freezing the skin, then removing that frozen skin and thawing it. Because the skin is frozen in the last step, you have to cook the turkey for dinner later, which means you are not cooking your turkey the day before. So defrosting and cooking in the last step takes up a lot of time and energy that you may or may not have saved by cooking the turkey earlier in the day.
As I said, defrosting a frozen bone in turkey breast takes up a lot of time and energy. It’s not just wasted time, it’s also time that you have to waste making the turkey breast that you’re eating right now.
In the end, its all about what you are willing to sacrifice and the quality of the finished product. For example, I have a frozen turkey breast that I wanted to cook and eat today. I could defrost and cook it, but I decided to defrost it because I know if I eat it right now, it wont take long to defrost. (Its a turkey breast that I have frozen last year, but I have it in the fridge right now.
I usually defrost a frozen turkey breast by letting the breast sit in the fridge for about 20 hours. This keeps it from getting too dry, and the juices from the fat cells stay in the breast. If you want to defrost a frozen turkey breast overnight, you can do so but be prepared to do a lot of cooking and watching.
To defrost a frozen turkey breast you should put the breast in the refrigerator and open the freezer and defrost the breast. If you do this cold turkey, you want the turkey to be moist and juicy.
If you do a lot of cooking and watch, you better be sure to defrost your turkey breast in the fridge. This is because you want to avoid getting fat and dry.
This is the same thing that happened to the people who froze their own turkey breast in the freezer. The chicken or turkey that was frozen at least had the temperature of the fridge on the freezer. If the freezer was frozen, it was probably at the temperature of the fridge. It’s a good idea to defrost the turkey breast in the fridge so that you can heat it up when you need to and reheat it to a nice juicy dinner.
